Plagued by suicidal thoughts and recurring distress, Myrique has been hospitalized in psychiatric care for several periods. They come to pay attention to other patients, to listen to their unique experiences, and then to create portraits that are as insightful as they are compassionate. Inspired by Brother Marie-Victorin's Laurentian Flora and by their own forest explorations in the Lower St. Lawrence region, they develop a project to learn to name life, with all its strengths and weaknesses, its beauty and its distress, in the hope of illuminating their own.
Originally from Montreal, Mélilot de Repentigny has lived in Rimouski, in the Lower St. Lawrence region, since 2018, an area they now consider home and where they practice wild foraging. Naming the Living is their first book.
