In an exceptional work, conceived as a biographical documentary enlivened by numerous archival photographs and personal documents, Michel Bras revisits his life. Literary texts, testimonies, statements, and reflections retrace this unique trajectory.

A self-taught man, throughout his life Michel Bras, an emblematic figure in cuisine, transformed constraints into freedom. When retracing his journey, made up of detours and unexpected turns, faced with a mountain of photos, archives and memories, he chose seven verbs as his guiding principles: listen, learn, love, dream, cook, doubt, share.

“I’m self-taught. This book is a book of hope. Gi and I started from scratch. We built ourselves up day by day, open to the world, to culture, to economics, to others… Our life has been full of failures.” These were Michel Bras’s first words at the beginning of our interviews in Lagardelle. The ascent of Lou Mazuc to Le Suquet, a distance of seven kilometers, however brilliant it may have been, was marked by trials. Nothing foreshadowed such a destiny, and it was through “drifting along winding paths” that the way was forged.
